Porsche 356 AT2 from 1958

Reassembling . . .

It's now the time of the reassembling ! The goal was to put the car on his wheels before going to the body shop.

Here is the gearbox just before his comeback under the car.
The car was maintained by the support of the rotissery fastened on the bumper's fixation.

We first put back the rear suspension to place the transaxle.

The same in his position under the car

Reassembling of braking plate and the braking system ( new wheels bearings, new brake cylinders, new oil seals, . . .). Good result isn't ?

Here is the reassembling of the front suspension with the setting of the front torsion bars.
After a few hours of polishing, the drum brakes are like new !

Everything is also new for the front brakes !
Concerning the front suspension, we have: new tie rods, new front suspension arm seals, new link and king pins, new grease fitters, spins axle reset to nominal dimension, . . .

Here are now some pictures from the car on his wheels just before the departure to the body shop for the body finish . . .

The car is now ready to go to the Body shop for final preparation and paint job. You can follow this level of the restoration in the "Bodywork" chapter . . .

Now the car is back at home for the last and most pleasant part of the job ! ! !

I started by the easiest part like the gold emblems, horn grilles, engine grille, rear lights, . . .

Both ID plate were media blasted and varnished before coming back near the fuel tank.

The rear of the car : teardrop taillight & license / Reverse light assembly re-chromed, new stainless steel license plate support, . . .

The engine back at his place with new "original type" insulation kits.

It's now time to look at the inside of the car ! The original steering which was totally cracked received some reparations . . . All the ivory knobs were restored and are now looking like news ( email me to know about my "ivory knob restoration's secret"). The instruments were also dismantled, cleaned, needle repainted, received new chrome rims, . . . We can see the old Blaupunkt radio which is still working fine !

Placement of the headliner : first part of the job with the insulation felt and after the installation of the headliner. You just need a few maintaining pliers and a lot of patience . . .

We can see the installation of the side insulation felts and the bottom wood plates screwed on the body (to attach the side upholstery panel).

And here after the installation of the "red leather panels" !

Rear seat and rear panels, nearly finished ! Nice job isn't it ?

We can see here the new floor mats (front, tunnel and rears), seat's rail nickel plated, German style red carpet set, new original type speaker. . .

The front of the car : original bumper with new rubber deco, new "original type" insulation panels in front trunk - fuel tank and gauge totally restored - NOS Michelin XZX tire, new chrome wheels and new spare wheel's leather strap - new 6V battery, . . .

It's looking like new ! ! !
